Mrs. Cheryl Sowell
I previously taught second grade at Blessed Sacrament for one year and spent 13 years prior to that as a Family Support Worker for Transitions of Western Illinois. My lifelong desire has always been to work with children and families with the intent that I would teach at the elementary level. I feel as though I was blessed with the opportunity to begin my career in a field which allowed me to work with parents and their children in their home environment. This experience has prepared me greatly for the classroom and the opportunity to unite the home and school environment for my students.
In the classroom, I strive to create a learning environment where all children feel valued and successful. Diversity is the key to success for all. I utilize the workshop approach daily in reading and writing which allows students to master skills at their own pace with added opportunities for support from me. Having a positive attitude is also a must. I encourage students to change their ways of thinking from “I can’t” to “I can try.” They can do whatever they set their minds too. There is so much growth happening in first grade academically and socially. I am so excited to be a part of that daily!
