Ms. Evelyn Downey
What I like most about teaching at St. Peter School is the positive environment, and the level of support I feel from everyone. I feel validated and supported every day from feedback I receive. Sometimes it is a note from a parent or one of my administrators, but often it comes in the form of a third grader’s hug.
Teaching has always been a rewarding career for me. I have always tried to create a classroom where students can see their own self-worth and build upon it. One that honors that God has gifted us, each with differing talents, and we work as a team to move forward. I want my students to have a variety of opportunities to meet their learning potential. As a teacher, I recognize that students have different educational needs. It is up to me to find a way to successfully meet those needs.
I also try to create a well-rounded class. I want my students to experience joy every day. Children need to grow in other ways than academics. In our fastpaced world, I think learning to build relationships, establishing independent skills, and developing a sense of responsibility are critical.
